Test Conference
International Research Society for Public Management (IRSPM) Regional Conference
UWI’s first IRSPM Regional Conference at Mona provides an opportunity for new ideas and approaches to contend about how to bridge the technical and political issues associated with the goal of efficient and effective public services management.
The positive correlation between an optimally functioning public sector and the achievement of development goals has long been established and accepted. Sound financial management, an efficient civil service and administrative policy, efficient and fair collection of taxes, and transparent operations are identified as important contributors to efficient public services delivery and an effective public sector and ultimately a sustainable platform on which to pursue development efforts. An appropriate development strategy and robust public institutions have been cited as reasons for successes of countries on a growth and development path.
The conference will facilitate critical analysis of the developmental role of the public sector thereby contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the theory and practice of public and development management through dissemination of new research findings.

MSBM Conference on Business and Management
This Conference marks the inauguration of a series that will frame scholars and practitioners as partners in the task of rigorously interrogating business and management theory and practice in the light of Caribbean reality. It fills a significant gap in business scholarship and practice by focusing specifically on issues relating to business and management theory and practice in the Caribbean region. The conference will provide a forum in which both scholars and practitioners can focus on these crucial issues and will focus on topics that are germane to the discipline of business and management, particularly new and emerging themes, interrogating these issues through the lens of small states development. Its aim is to attract national, regional and international scholars who are writing and researching on issues in the discipline and its sub-disciplines as well as the practitioners who are grappling with these issues on a daily basis.
Conference on Cyber Security and Digital Forensics
This two-day conference on Cyber Security and Digital Forensics is organized by the Mona ICT Policy Centre, Mona School of Business and Management, UWI in association with Internet Society (ISoc), an international organization and in partnership with Henlin-Gibson-Henlin. The conference is being planned in response to the upsurge in ICT-based crimes locally and globally. This includes the infamous lottery scam, hacking and other threats to businesses, governments and individuals. The objective is to provide information to stakeholders on the various types of cyber threats, discuss the key developments in the area, and to discuss the legal, regulatory and ethical issues involved. The conference will also seek to provide public education on digital forensics for persons with little or no prior knowledge of the area. A key outcome is to ensure that stakeholders understand that while there are risks involved in carrying out activities online, there are mitigating factors and legitimate methods of combatting cyber crimes. The conference also intends on making training and reform proposals for Cyber Security and Digital Forensics.
International Conference on Social Implications of Computers in Developing Countries
WG 9.4: Social Implications of Computers in Developing Countries
The Working Group 9.4 of the International Federation for Information Processing gathers scholars and practitioners that deal with the issue on how ICT affects social development. In the last three decades this issue has been attracting scholars from information systems and a variety of other areas such as development studies, political science, political economy, social anthropology, and sociology.
The theme of the 12th International Conference of the IFIP 9.4 Working Group 2013 in Jamaica is “Into the Future.” The importance of this theme is fundamental to our research domain, namely how might information and communication technologies shape the future of development within developing counties. At the conference we seek to not only present scholarly conference papers in and around the different tracks but also to provoke thought and discussion in and around how we might set the agenda for the future for ICT4D research and practice. Thus we seek to problematize the past, present and the future of ICT4D.
