In his curriculum vitae, Stephen Meghoo lists reading among his hobbies. So I began our conversation in his New Kingston office by asking what he had recently read and liked. Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers—the Story of Success was the immediate response. Jamaicans who have read the book know that Gladwell’s mother is a Jamaican as the family history is told in some detail in the last chapter titled, ‘A Jamaican Story’. But there is a less-known Jamaican
connection in which Stephen takes some pride: “He [Gladwell] has a cousin who worked at IBM in Jamaica and now works for IBM Canada.”
