Overview

The 2011 Cloud Conference is scheduled to be held November 1- 2, 2011 at the Pegasus Hotel in Kingston, Jamaica.

Background
With the growth in applications for hosted IT services, it has become important for both private and public sector organizations to have information on alternative strategies and approaches to data and info-management in order to operate more efficiently.

The Telecommunications Policy and Management (TPM) Programme of the School, in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and Lead Sponsor Digicel and will be hosting the two-day Conference to examine “New Applications in Managing Hosted Corporate and Information Services.”

It is part of the series of workshops and conferences being held by the TPM Programme, MSB, under the auspices of the ITU Centres of Excellence Programme or the IDRC Networks for Development Programme in the Caribbean region.

Objective
The aim of the Conference is to expose participants in the private and public sectors to the use of cloud computing services for the more efficient delivery of business and government services.

Target Audience
The Conference is targeted at:

  • Leading technical and strategic planners in the Jamaican public sector, including ministries, local authorities and agencies.
  • Corporate leaders from large, medium and small enterprises.
  • Academics from educational and training institutions interested in new technology solutions and applications for more cost effective service delivery

 

Topics to be covered
The Conference will seek to cover issues including defining and classifying cloud services, key drivers of cloud services, software and platform implications, quality of service and efficiency in service delivery, virtualization and support services, business continuity, security and policy.

The Topics to be covered based on the Plenary and Workshop Themes are:

  1. Global and National Perspectives on Cloud Services
  2. Perspectives on the use of Cloud Services
  3. Cloud and Virtualization Services. Applications for Business
  4. Implementation Strategies for Cloud Services

 

Format
Presented via a mix of plenary sessions and one Roundtable, the Conference will be streamlined to meet the interests of corporate decision makers and technical personnel in each case. Presentations will be made by international as well as local experts, service providers and users of cloud computing and virtualization services.

The Conference will also feature an Exhibition.

Each Session will be moderated by a designated Chair and will make provision for audience participation through Questions and Answers.
